TUMBLE:
A 9-SQUARE EXERCISE

This project is based on the verb 'to tumble'. The speculative student study structure is an exercise in transforming a simple form with simple, repeating operations. Spaces are formed by rotating a 3-dimensional 'L' shape systematically until the entire 3x3x4 prism (including one underground level) is filled. As a companion to geometric formfinding, I also envisioned a porosity such that the internal circulation is directly dependent on the direction of tumbling. For example, the half-wall shared between two tumbling blocks would be removed for access, and light wells were allowed between levels where one block happened to open downward to the one below.
