STEPPING HOUSE

The Stepping House sits on a P-shaped footprint next to the University of Toronto's Varsity Stadium. The residence is a bar building curved to the unique shape of the site, welcoming students from three main access points while creating pockets of social life between its walls. The building mass steps gradually downward, allowing southeastern sunlight to reach its courtyards and providing terrace spaces that vary in size across each floor. It hopes to foster community through the generous space dedicated to social lounges and outdoor vantage points from which students can notice and engage with each other. It is designed to house 350 students.
